Investigative Journalism at its Finest

I am on a mission to find out what happened at the bloggage blackout site. If I'm not back in 24 hours, release the dogs with the bees that when they bark they spit bees.

The recent drippings of information suggest that there may be activity in the house, but this could be a rouse to lure me into their den of anti-bloggage.

Remember: you are my last hope that the story of the house's residents will be made public.

>_<

So that was really how I wanted to spend Saturday evening, IN HOSPITAL. >_<

Illness reached new crappy highs this afternoon. Maternal parental unit and I went to Lincoln, where I discovered I couldn't walk more than about three feet without wanting to collapse, and so off to the hospital we went. Where I was attached to numerous beepy things and given huge amounts of things in gases that have made me feel very shakey but able to breathe, which is fair enough.

Oh and I successfully evaded having blood taken by having an enormous spazz-fit at the sight of the needle, hyperventilating and raising my pulse to a stupidly high level. I know I shouldn't have, but I can't help it. o_0 My head knows needles don't hurt _that_ much, but you try telling that to my arm when someone waves a needle around it. >_<

So yeah, I'm not very well. >_<

Inter-continental artwork

A unique and touching work, painted by Elizabeth and myself:

Liz weeps over Katy on her sickbed (living room sofa)

I think you will agree it is a truly moving piece.

Now I am going to indulge in more tissuey and lemsippy fun.

Faces

Gankutsuou 7 did not disappoint. ^_______^ It had Ali! And horses! And M. Noritier and his amazing blinkography!! ^____^ I'm not sure I like the way they're portraying M. de Villefort though, I've never imagined him at *that* degree of evil.

One thing did freak me out in the episode though. What's with the random faces in the background? A cunning comment on the omnipresence of the Count? ^__^ There's at least two of them - one in the garden and one in the moon at the end. And whilst on the subject of faces, is it really just the fangirl in me or do they actually appear to have lifted all of the Count's facial expressions from Alucard? I must do comparative screenshots some time, it's unnervingly cool.

Still got the consumption. Which may also be radiation sickness, according to older sister, as my symptoms are much the same as George Mason in 24.

Poorly, going to bed now. Illness not related to Mint music. Possibly suffering from consumption. Though without poetic bishounen in frilly shirts to eulogise the sublime decay of frail young maidens such as myself and consider the transient nature of life, sadly.

Just give me what I want and no one gets hurt...

Especially when people give me \a360 for eBay items. ^____^ I love you, girl who keeps bidding on my stuff!!

Right, so, things to write about. *drags up mental list* I am still completely enamored with the new U2 album, which I would review, but I suspect this would be of neither use nor interest to anyone. Suffice to say you should get it and you should like it, but you're not going to. :p *obstinant*

Today was spent mostly being domestic and handling this week's mammoth commission, this. It's a weapon from Phantasy Star Online. It's enormous, and absolutely hilarious fun to make. It involves paint and huge blocks of foam. This makes me happy. It does mean I have to go to B&Q again tomorrow though, because I'm out of paint for the moment. >_<

I had Blue Peter-tacular afternoon once I'd finished commission work for the day. I made a bird feeder! One of those wicked ones made chiefly of beef dripping and coconut shell. ^____^ It smelt disgusting, but was strangely amusing to make.

Ooh! Ooh! Thinking of birds, I saw Alex the parrot on TV today, Liz!! ^____^ He is awesome! No, I wasn't watching Animal Planet all day, that would just be sad...*shuffles feet* ...it was a slow news day, alright? >_<

I am still being dragged through huuuuuge amounts of 24, which is an arduous, but enjoyable task. ^__^;;; There's just so much of it. o_0 I think I'm about half way through season 2 now. I would quite like Jack to shoot the majority of the female members of the cast, but never mind, Jack is sufficiently psychotic for me to like him anyway.

And I have to go to bed soon, because I'm ill and I think the Lemsip is making me sleepy. o_0

*waddles onto soapbox*

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii have a new thing to enthuse about... Well, no, this is a thing I commonly enthuse about, but more specific. And it is something that habitually bothers me, but today it had reason to come to the front of my mind.

Greyhounds. I had a friend at school whose dad was a greyhound trainer, and it really upset me when she told me about how most dogs (but fortunately not hers) are treated when they retire from racing, usually at about three years old. Yeah, go on, guess. It doesn't involve being cared for by greyhound breeders, I can tell you that. >_< Now I'm not exactly a fan of gambling in the first place, but throw in a helping of animal cruelty or neglect and you've really got something to make my blood boil.

But I went to Lincoln today, and outside a pet shop there was a stand raising money for a group called The Retired Greyhounds Trust. Oddly enough, I was drawn to the stand by the huge number of dogs around it. ^___________^ Dogs which let me pat them and cuddle them. *so happy* My reaction to the scene wasn't exactly difficult to anticipate, I know, but I was amazed by my mum's. My mum is not exactly an animal person, but she was completely taken by how well-behaved and docile greyhounds are (they are - they're incredibly lazy too, contrary to popular belief ^__^). She asked me to get a leaflet about rehoming a greyhound, and is now almost as set as I am about getting one. ^___^

The only thing we kinda disagree on is another of my "ethical" issues about rehoming. She wants to get a young dog because, obviously, a young dog is likely to live longer. But I've always thought that if I do rehome a dog, I want it to be an older one, basically because I hate the idea that there are old dogs that have to live the rest of their (already pretty crappy) lives in a kennel because nobody wants anything that isn't a puppy. I'd rather take an old dog and give it a good couple of years before it dies than get a puppy just because they're young.

Argh, the thought of dogs like that makes me really sad. >_<

On a lighter note, Trevor appears to have regurgitated that moinkey nut. I know you all wanted to know that.

Ahh ^____^

Gankutsuou just keeps getting better. ^__^ And they're on to the really good bits of the story now. I can't wait to see Ali in the next episode. ^______^ (But why is there only one horse instead of two? *sulks*) I was incredibly impressed with their version of Haidee's diamond dress too, it's stunning.

The only thing I would say is that I'd like it if they started filling in a few more of the holes now. I mean, it's six episodes in, so we've met a fair chunk of the enormous cast. I presume "The Secret Garden" or whatever the ep7 title is is going to be about Valentine, which is a good thing (especially if they have M. Noirtier in, who I like for no apparent reason other than he is obstinant ^__^) but can't we have Count backstory already? I want people running around (even more) incognito and going mad and things!

*wanders off to find the 7 raw*

Stuff I've been meaning to say for a while

Before I say anything else, if you missed it, Al. Make someone buy it. I need the money. >_<

I keep having the weirdest dreams at the moment. Really, really odd. I suspect this is because I'm not exactly settled mentally, but then I don't remember them being this bizarre before. I'd never really thought about it before, but I have recurring theme dreams. Almost every night without fail I have dreams about being chased in some way or another, it's really odd. I haven't had recurring dreams since I was little and I had the one with two giant and tiny tyres that made this noise that tasted like biting wool. (I don't know a better way of explaining it than that, it's totally surreal, but exactly like that.)

A couple of nights ago I dreamt my sister and I robbed a bank and were on the run, then last night I was trying to find my mum in a tube station with a huge crowd. Then I got stuck in a tube we all had to go through to get in to Pizza Express in Oxford. Yeah...

And then there was the dream about working on a market stall in Tokyo and seeing real-size fight between original Gundam and a Zaku in the street. o_0 Oh and the *really* horrible on where D got married to someone from my school and I got run over. >_< Oh and at some point in the middle of all of that I was running around in a really big marble room, then I was fighting hordes of aliens on an Alien-style spaceship. o_0

Really, is there something in the water here? o_0

I must also blog about my sometimes hobby, given that I found a good example this evening. State websites. (No really, stay with me on this one...) State websites are some of the weirdest things in the world, and for no apparent reason I find myself looking at them when I get bored. This, for instance, is the Japanese imperial family's website. Go and read the emperor's poems. This is the government of Kyrgyzstan's website. (I want a website with a Kyrgyzstan suffix, for fairly obvious reasons.) And this is the Burkina Faso government's page, which I only mention so that I can say the word Ouagadougo. Best. Capital. Ever.

When I find some really quality examples of state websites I'll put them up, those are just a few I have to hand. My personal favourites include any page with an animated gif of the national flag blowing in the pixellated wind. Nothing says cool like an animated gif flag.

I'm federal agent Jack Bauer, and today is the longest day of my life.

Must. Stop. Watching 24. o_0 Sister's three season boxsets are too much for me to resist. It's actual good television I haven't seen before!

...yeah, I know that only puts me two years behind the _rest_ of the world, but that's pratically contemporary by my standards.

Anyway, I have a huuuge amount of things I keep thinking I should blog about. None of them are interesting. You might want to stay here and look at some pictures of Trevor. He's the best animal in the world.

Oh yeah, important notice. I have a new mobile! One that actually works! You can send me texts and you might get replies! I would like that, it makes me feel like less of a loser.

Urmm, what was the next order of business? Best thing I found out today. I am too drunk to play King Domo Floathing today. Hehe. This is a warning to you. Get your drunkeness up to 15 one day, it's _very_ funny. ^____^

At the moment, I am having far too much loser glee at this. I don't know why I put the link up to that because the only other person I know who'd be interested, I've already told about it. I _know_ I have mind-numbingly lame taste in music, but I love U2. o_0 I think they're severely awesome. Have done for many many years, have had the piss taken out of me frequently for it too. But I'm not bitter, I'm not bitter. *cracks knuckles* And they're number one this week, so nuh. *hides back in corner of room with copy of Vertigo* Only a week til the new album comes out, only a week til the new album comes out....

Thinking of the only other person I know who likes U2, and in no little part through the influence of *cough* me, D's got a blog. It's a bit rough 'n' ready at the moment, because he's only just started it, but I figured it deserved a link. ^__^ Plus he has the Nintendogs link on there, and that you need to see.

So anyway, I'll inflict this on you now.

Obligatory Gankutsuou Pictures

I've had a poo day, so I've been capping Gankutsuou. And it's not all pictures of the Count this time. Just *mainly* the Count....

Gankutsuou 5

Despite it not being her first appearance, it's the first time we've really got to see Haidee, and I love her character design. It's a shame the same can't be said of Ali, who is awesome in the book. (*loves that last cap very very much for the pretty*)

I will attempt to keep as many spoilers out of this as I can, but Albert seemed ever so slightly confused about which one of his loved ones was coming to rescue him from the water.

Actually, this entire sequence just amused me too much. I say Albert jumped in the water on purpose to get a hug from the Count. Little hussy.

And now the gratuitous Count pictures. Feel free to make your own gag about the backdrop, Albert, and the Count's backside.

The Count is just so. lovely. I have nothing else to say for that picture. He just is. ^____^

Nor do I have anything to say about this, other than using Virtualdub just amuses me sometimes. ^____^

Going to write hundreds of listings now. I hate writing listings. >_<

Trevor returns to what he does best, eating.

I hope you also love Trevor. He is the awesomest pet ever.

Gankutsuou Squeeage

Now I am home I have been catching up on the downloadables. First and foremost, Gankutsuou. ^____^ I watched 4 raw last week, so I pretty much knew what to expect from this ep, but this does not make it any less squee-worthy. And since I'm not feeling particularly literate at the moment, you're going to get my observations in bullet points.

- The Count is entirely screwed by the amount of pills he takes. And yet he still manages to be excruciatingly cool. Mmmm the beautiful effects of decadence. o_0

- Mercedes wears Count-hair-patterned earings. Symbolicious.... ^________^

- The Count and Albert are the funniest thing _ever_. Albert dresses up as a pirate to make the Count happy. ^____^

- I would like to live at the Count's house. o_0

Now I have to go and make shelves/watch Kannaduki no Miko.

Review!!

Yes, something that actually resembles content!

As with all things I like a fair amount, I am going to squee enthusiastically about this, although I hope that everyone will break with tradition and believe me on this, because it's true. :p

The Nightmare Before Christmas game! It's REALLY GOOD!! ^_____^ Having spent most of my week playing Oogie's Revenge, to the distraction of the residents of the house, and at huge inconvenience to Andrew, who I thank from the coffee dregs of my heart for lending me his PS2 and the game, I can categorically say that I love it! (That was an interesting sentence construction, Katy...) This probably doesn't surprise anyone, given that I own more Jack Skellington merchandise and have watched the film more times than is healthy. But on the other hand, if they had done it wrong this would have made it very easy for me to get nit-picky. ^__^

But they didn't! I have had absolute spasms of glee over how wonderfully they recreated Halloween Town because it is an almost faultless copy of the film version, with the obvious fleshing out for gameplay's sake, of course. It doesn't count as much of a spoiler to say they did a brilliant job on Christmas Town too (if you watch the opening video you'll see you get to go to Christmas Town eventually, so I'm not counting that as a spoiler :p). The game mainly takes place in Halloween town, as you might expect, but there are a few other stages that really make it interesting. The Oogie-Boogie-related levels have the fantastic Cajun-in-neon feeling about them, complete with all the accoutrements of Oogie's casino. My favourite levels, though, are the ones set in the Hinterlands (where the Holiday Doors are, if you remember the start of the film). There's just something really pretty about these levels: they look like someone has animated them in a sketchbook in pencil, with cross-hatched shading and wavey contour lines on the ground. It's incredibly hard to describe, but very *very* pretty. I want somewhere like that to live in. o_0

So the graphics are top, possibly even a new high in my experience of PS2 graphics. They captured the stop motion feeling perfectly. Even Jack's distinctive gait is exactly how it should be. But the gameplay is also great - it's Capcom hack 'n' snot fun! Soul Robbers would be the most useful things in the world if they were real. The Soul Robber, of course, being the big green snot whip that Jack flings around and sticks on things. (Note: Snot whip not actually made of snot.) You do actually get two other modes to play in as well as Soul Robber: Pumpkin King and Santa, both of which are also great fun, but not quite as brilliant as snot whipping.

So have I used every superlative I know yet? This game is just *fantastic*. There are no two ways about it. I salute Capcom for making such a smashing piece of gaming. Yes it bears more than a passing resemblance to Devil May Cry, but so what? Devil May Cry is a great game. It has so many little interesting touches - like the rythmn games at the end of the boss fights for one! - that it almost outdoes DMC at its own game. They've also done the near-impossible by making a good sequel to the film that actually stays in the spirit of the original, the reworkings of the soundtrack being one area that deserves particular merit. There is some original music in it, but it's mainly instrumental pieces, the rest being reworded versions of songs from the film. Which is great as far as I'm concerned because I love the film's songs. I *really* want the soundtrack to the game as soon as it comes out, I can say that now. ^___^

I know this game hasn't done incredibly well in Japan, which is somewhat surprising and a great shame, but I have a sneaking suspicion it will do very good things in America, where the Jack Skellington franchise sells insane amounts of merchandise (much to Katy's pleasure). And when it comes out in the UK, everyone who owns a Playstation 2 should buy it. Yes you should. ^____^

Posted by Katyjag at 5:09 PM

ASOBE!!!

I am having far too much fun playing this. I suggest you do too. It's very amusing and not as lame as the idea of an online rpg usually sounds. Not least because of the supreme graphics.

Night of the Incredibly Bad Stomach Ache

Gurfwl. >_< If I hadn't had revolting stomach pains this evening, it would have been a great deal more fun. I wouldn't have missed the other houseguests' departure by being asleep, either. >_<

But anyway, apart from that, it has been a good night. We woz all civilized like, and went to see Jane singing in a concert. I felt slightly ashamed that I spent the performance of Pie Jesu trying to think where my brain knew the lyrics from, and realising it was thinking of the monks from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. o_0 I *know* I'm not cultured, alright? (It's just a shame everyone else does too....)

But anyway, the concert was a spiffy affair, as is consistently the case with such things, and sitting in Exeter chapel was as lovely an experience as ever. 'Snice, it is, 'snice indeed. But the evening progressed from one cultural experience to another, via sparklers in the garden and Night of the Living Dead (not in the garden). Now, I am a self-confessed hater of all things horror film, but I was impressed by the sheer genius that is black and white zombies walking around very slowly munching on unsuspecting idiots. Amble away from them at your leisure! Go and stand in a field and taunt them by walking to the other side every time they come within three feet of you! Anything except boarding yourself into a house, you retards! I'm pretty sure some of the members of the cast actually had their IQs rise by becoming zombies.

But there is one thing the film has taught me above all else, and I think everyone can take something from this: Johnny has the keys. You think about that. *nods wisely*

Politics, by Katy

Now we all know that I do not hold a single intelligent thought in my head when it comes to politics, but I'm lead to believe this old politics thing has been quite important of late, and I feel it is my duty to bring this topic to my blog.

With pictures of President Bush's dog! ^__________^ YAAAY!!

...I've been having too much fun with that website this evening. o_0

Also on the subject of fun, I want a Predator. I think they are *adorable*. I want one as a pet. I also thoroughly enjoyed Alien vs. Predator, in case you hadn't guessed. Things blew up, aliens fought predators and horrible, horrible inaccuracies were made at the expensive of legitimate Egyptology, so it was a good film overall. o_0 I will, however, emphasize for anyone who didn't hear me say it already, THE EGYPTIANS DIDN'T DO HUMAN SACRIFICES!!! *beats film archaeologist with stick* I felt very upset for my beloved Egyptians when they started insinuating this, they would have been offended. >_< If my degree taught me anything, it is that the Egyptians were a most civilised race and weren't into that sort of thing.

In other news, I am addicted to the Nightmare Before Christmas game so much it hurts. >_< It's so much fun!! >_< I need my own copy now!!

I know why I'm sad...

I want my room. It seems odd to think that given how much I have complained about it in the past, but I want my room so I can sit in it and read Monte Cristo surrounded by the mess of lovely things that are in there. If only I could get my computer on to the internet up there it would actually be my own six-foot paradise. But I can't afford the necessary things to network the house, nor do I know how to do it.

The fireworks on Friday would probably look great from my hiding place. >_<

(Not that I am complaining about being in Oxford, because I'm very happy to be here, I'm just one of those people who are incredibly geographicaly fickle.)

Posted by Katyjag at 3:06 AM

Enthusiasm?

Something I ought to have in abundance right now, being in Oxford and all, but it's feeling somewhat sapped. I have no good reason why I should be feeling like this, but I just feel a bit empty.

I'm certainly not sick anymore, so it's not that, but I am feeling really tired a lot. It'll pass, I should think, when I find something to enthuse myself about again. -_-

Tomato+Potato=POMATO

I am so glad I have anime to teach me these things.

I've been taking advantage of being in Oxford to catch up on anime, chiefly Fullmetal Alchemist. Which is pleasant because I have missed it. o_0 Things have gone even bleaker than the last stop I got to, which is not *quite* my cup of tea, but the dual brilliances of ep 37 and Wrath make all things better. ^___^ I require many many pictures of happy Wrath because he makes me happy.

I also need to bug you some time for more FMA. I have exhausted the house's supply! ONEGAI!!! *weeps*

Oh, and I feel faint seiyuu-ey happiness for spotting Koyasu Takehito and Hayame Sho in FMA. Yeah well, so what if I can only do the easy ones. :p

...but I can't be arsed. And everyone who needs to be told about this reads my blog anyway.

Who wants to go and see Alien vs. Predator at 6.30 on Thursday? It'll be sci-fi trash, ladies. Aliens living in pyramids under Antarctica? I think so. As Jane so rightly said, if we go and see it in the same spirit we did Van Helsing, it should be quite fun.

Just rsvp here.

僕はカボチャ王だよ!!

(Helen taught me how to say that this evening. "Boku wa kabocha-ou da zo!!!" Best piece of Japanese ever.)

Sooooo. I have been jolly poorly. o_0 Thankfully it was only yesterday, however, because it was really painful. I was horribly unwell yesterday morning, but less so by the evening, possibly through the magic of Jane's revivifying punch. o_0

But the Halloween party was awesome fun. I hope this opinion was shared by the rest of the collected partygoers, and if not I will set Pestilence Bat on you. My costume design changed at the last minute due to the circumstances, and I came as my own _beautiful_ interpretation of Pestilence. With authentic pestilent ming, now passed on to various people. >_< So yes, pass the parcel was played, apples were bobbed, ming was spread. I hope everyone had a good time. ^____^

I have spent the day playing The Nightmare Before Christmas, courtesy of Andrew and his PS2. It's quite incredibly awesome, I have to say. And it's dubbed in English, which makes things *much* easier. ^___^ Even if I'm still not entirely sure of the controls. ^____^

Anyway, I have to go to sleep sometime. o_0
