Tenjou Tenge Episode 6 - Illusion

She means business. Yes, that is the limit of my wit for today.Again with the dragon imagery - WE KNOW. Although learning that Nagi has a Mysterious Backstory makes things a little more interesting.Um. Yeah. I think anything that could be said probably has been said already.

An awful lot of nothing much happened this time round - Maya and Emi's fight reaches a somewhat...explosive...point, as Emi loses control of the ki binding in her bodyfat (where she hides all her knives) to spectacular effect, Aya whinges and moans before having psychic flashbacks about Nagi's past and preparing to kick a bit of Zombie Pole Guy butt, Nagi dominates his fight with Saga Mask effectively and Takayanagi and Bob do very little of any great interest.

Mmmm, cheap-ass fight animation. Lots of speed lines and non-animated movement here. Still, not half bad. But please, Aya, do something half decent soon, would you, and stop being so bloody annoying?

Tenjou Tenge Episode 5 - Punishment

EVERYONE must like Takayanagi. He's such a kick-ass spazz.Maya is blatantly going to win this fight.Aya still sucks, but as long as she does some serious damage to the freaky zombie pole dude she still has some hope of redemption.

Bowling time! Except the Enforcement club come to kill them all. So we have Takayanagi and Bob against seventy grunts, Nagi vs. Saga Mask, Aya vs. Freaky Zombie Pole Dude and Maya vs. Isuzu (is that her name? forgotten already) set up for next episode. Oh, and Aya hates Maya since she used her Ryugan and saw her kissing Nagi. You're still lame, Aya, even with psychic powers and Zombie Pole Dude saying you'll be great.

Shame about the somewhat limited animation this time round. I'm definitely enjoying TenTen much more than before, and I'm so glad it isn't dragging things out like most other fighting shows.

Tenjou Tenge Episode 4 - Doubt

Edvard Munch must be turning in his grave. Can anyone actually want Aya and Nagi to get together? Aya's such a drip!Lemme guess, the dragon is the most powerful blah blah blah.

Dear Natsume Aya. You suck. Yours faithfully...

'tis Golden Week, so the club's out training. Nagi masters a super technique and starts falling in love with Maya (and likewise), and Ryuuzaki gets thoroughly beaten up by Sagara...I mean, Saga Mask. In the meantime, Bob and Takayanagi do virtually nothing, although we find out Takayanagi's older brother is the president of the Enforcers.

That's more like it! That was much more enjoyable than the last episode. Needs more Takayanagi, though. He is verily a dude. Fanservice-tastic as usual, but it's actually vaguely well done (aside from the yuri-tabulous Chiaki/Aya scene, but then Aya makes me want to pull my teeth out with a spatula at the best of times) compared to something like Konomini. On to the bowling alley!

Tenjou Tenge Episode 3

Just to make up the numbers, although I've long deleted the episode...

Nagi, Bob and...Bob's girlfriend whose name I have forgotten...get beaten up by the fire-throwing guy, whom Maya later beats up with the aid of a twig in revenge. Their general anger at this means they sign up with Maya, Aya and Takayanagi to join the special fight club thing (the name of which I have ALSO forgotten). I think that was pretty much all that happened.

For some reason I vaguely want to keep watching TenTen, despite it being no better than, if not worse than, some of the shows I've already dropped. The fighting is lovely to look at and it's paced so much better than most other shows of its ilk (well, thus far, anyway) so I guess it's the sheer eye candy. Which I'm not sharing with you :p read someone else's blog on it if you want pictures.

Tenjou Tenge Episode 2 - Defeat

I've gone and deleted the episode already and can't be bothered to find where I burnt it to a couple of days ago, so currently (and probably permanently) no screencaps for TenTen 2. Not like an awful lot happened anyway, although it was nicely animated as usual from Madhouse.

Nagi gets seriously beaten up after tricking Takayanagi into losing their fight with a bento box, and spends most of the episode angsting about finally losing a fight and his Tragic Past as a latchkey kid. Another guy with huge lips beats up a bunch of pro wrestling club members by shooting fire from his hands, and we find out he's part of a club of "executioners", who send him and the pro wrestling captain to punish Nagi and Bob for beating people up. Finally, Bob pours out his troubles to his girlfriend until Nagi breaks in and they have a nice supportive chat over a cup of tea, as Huge Lipped Guy sets Bob's bike on fire.

Wow, a whole lot of nothing happened. And why do they always begin with the person that can control fire? Fire's the most boring super power I can think of off hand. Aya was significantly less annoying this episode, but it was missing the fun from last time. Plus Nagi's backstory is seriously dull. Yet for some reason I still want to give this another episode before I drop it. Dunno why.

Tenjou Tenge Episode 1 - Sacred Territory

Opening - Bomb A Head! V (m.c.A.T) - doo doo doo do dooo dooo...ahem. No, I don't like it. Honestly. HELP ME, I LIKE BOMB A HEAD. Makes the show look a lot more fun than it turns out to be later on, though, if I remember rightly.
Ending - Aishitene *heart* motto (Aiko Kayoh) - blah, Aya standing there looking stupid. The song's a lot easier on the ears than Kayoh's first single, the OP for Yamibou.

See, the OP designs for the blokes are so much better than the ones in the episode. I liked the leaping-out-of-manga bits. BOMB A HEAD!This is when I like Aya - before she says anything and she's just swishing the sword around.Nagi and Bob. Why does Nagi wear a blonde anvil on his head?
chibi!Maya rules. So there.Aaaaaand this is where I don't like Aya. 'Hello nurse', huhuhuhuh.Nagi looking particularly angry (and dusty).

Most likely licensed by Geneon, so be good and don't watch this unlike me.

In a contradiction of all my harsh rules, I like what I've read of the Tenjou Tenge manga. I think it helps that the fights are spectacular, because there are so many hateful, hateful things about it - the rape scenes, the ugly male character designs, the crazy levels of fanservice. And the complete lack of plot.

Nagi and Bob are teenage delinquents who beat up everyone at their school for kicks - except for Takayanagi and Natsume Maya, who transforms from a small child into a buxom seventeen year old and thwacks Nagi through a window and into the girl's showers, where he lands upon Maya's younger sister Aya. Due to an old tradition, Aya falls immediately in love with Nagi and asks to get married to him. The second half of the episode follows Aya's attempts to woo Nagi, and we get a little backstory - the school used to be a martial arts centre - before Nagi and Takayanagi fight in the cafeteria.

The character designs are still pretty hideous (except in the opening sequence). The fanservice is toned down slightly (although the "boing" sounds are groanworthy). And it's still got kickass fights, at least - lovely Madhouse animation, as to be expected, although the quality could drop off drastically after this episode. Aya is annoyingly wet, but she can at least deal out some heavy damage so when we get to later episodes (if I last that long) things should be an improvement. And would someone please explain the point of Bob to me?

Need I mention how cool chibi!Maya is? Although when Takayanagi carries her on his shoulder I keep expecting her to scream "KONNANICHI WA!" because she sounds so much like Kero-chan from Cardcaptor Sakura.

Hmm, that was incoherent. Anyway, yeah, quite good fun, Aya needs to get a life and Bob needs to be pruned from the story rapidly, Bomb A Head shames me greatly, tune in next time!
