In a plot-hole crazy storyline where teachers apparently learn nothing about their students before teaching them, it's Parent-Teacher Day coming up, and what with Ritsuka's mother being insane and his father somewhat absent this doesn't sound good. We meet two more random glasses-wearing characters, Ritsuka's classmate Yayoi (who for some idiotic reason likes Yuiko) and Soubi's fellow university student Kio (aka Campy McCamp from Camptown), while Ritsuka pierces Soubi's ears and gets a phone from him to contact him at any point he wishes - all this serves to deepen their slightly odd relationship.
Okay, where did all the spazz come from? While it made a change from the usual angst-o-rama from Loveless, there was a lot of odd humour in this episode which I wasn't quite expecting. I was slightly worried that I wouldn't enjoy Loveless so much without any flashy spell battles, but despite the fact that I'm not sure I totally buy the relationship between Soubi and Ritsuka - I get that Ritsuka is very young and thus his wild vacillitation between hating and obsessing over Soubi is vaguely understandable, but I think I just don't really "get" it - this episode was quite well written and had some nice directorial touches in places (although the flowery borders at the end were a little too much, methinks).
Did anyone else think Yayoi's line about the rain was a pretty blatant homage to Fullmetal Alchemist, incidentally?
