Erementar Gerad Episode 2 - Fated Reaction

The attack on the Red Lynx group ends disastrously as Coud and co. end up crashlanding. Coud decides to help Ren reach the mysterious lost paradise known as the Edel Garden, which is somewhere in the sky, and Cisqua decides that Acqueil will tag along to help protect Ren (they're out of cash and their aircraft is out of commission, it's not like they have much choice!). While they travel, Coud and Ren save a passing father and daughter from a monster in the forests, and the group gets invited round for dinner - while Coud makes the mistake of accidentally treating Ren as a weapon instead of a person, the father strikes a shady deal...

If Ren gets captured every episode I will drop this series like a feather off the Tower of Pisa. As it is, I'm still quite enjoying Erementar Gerad - it's definitely got the feel of Scrapped Princess about it, with silly comedy mixed with some angst and action, although in a slightly more generic manner. A big draw is the above-average animation, as mentioned last week - plus, we had glorious stock footage for the Reaction sequence which, as usual, I thought was great. For the moment I'll keep watching, but it's possibly one of the weaker decent shows of the season.

I feel I should note I have become horribly addicted to the opening sequence to this show. I've watched it about 30 times since seeing the first episode last week, and it's easily my favourite part of Erementar Gerad. Opening single out soon...

"..but it's possibly one of the weaker decent shows of the season."

Not exactly the most resounding endoresement I've ever heard lol. But I see what you're getting at. I'm really digging this one so far. I don't think I can point to any one thing that I really love about it though. I just like the entire package. You're right about the OP too. I usually skip the OP of most shows but I've watched this one (and Futakoi Alt.'s) several times over.

Agreed, the OP is definitely the best part of the show so far. I didn't think too much of the first episode, but I kept watching the OP over and over again...

How does the anime compare to the game?
Does it match?

Ok, the games are not yet out.
My mistake.

Argggggh! Curse you! I've now got that bloody OP stuck in my head...

OST 1 is out next week, though. Hurrah!

To be honest, I'm not massively impressed with the shows animation. Its pretty good, but there are a few things which bug me here and there (the most specific thing is that I just don't think the washed out/water coloury quality of the backgrounds particularly work with the fairly brightly and simply coloured characters).

That said, I've enjoyed enough of what I've seen of the show to just wait for the DVD release and pick that up.
