Otogizoushi Episode 10 - Shuten

Disguised as Kumaso soldiers, Hikaru and co. head off to attack Shutendouji, but discover that the gunpowder shots are a decoy to distract Heian-kyo's main forces from defending the outskirts of the city. Hikaru heads in to confront Shutendouji by herself but things quickly turn ugly, and she has to be helped by her companions. The strange sake that Shutendouji drinks, however, has made him demonically powerful, and he ends up drinking it all, mutating him into a hideous beast - only thanks to Ibaragi, his once faithful retainer (who was the "ghost" at the gate all those episodes ago) is he defeated. However, the real enemy may be within Hikaru's group itself.

As if you couldn't see that coming. In some ways it seems a little odd that Otogizoushi has added fantasy elements - don't get me wrong, I love fantasy drama, but given how the series seemed almost ultra realistic at the beginning having demon sake seems a little bit incongruous. No matter, though, it's just as enjoyable as it always has been.
