Kekkaishi Episode 2 - Yoshimori and Tokine

Yoshimori and Tokine continue to be polar oppposites in their lifestyles and kekkaishi methods; however, they complement each other fairly nicely, even if Yoshimori’s attempts at being subtley noble don’t escape Tokine’s notice THAT easily.

Kekkaishi continues to impress by being a little bit different from most shounen fighting shows. There’s no power discovery here; our protagonists have always been able to do what they do, so we don’t have to go through any of the usual “No way! He’s impossibly powerful given he’s a human/completely useless/a ghost/whatever” crap that tends to annoy me, and there’s a more human side to the whole thing from the “slice of life” bits we get to see. Whether or not this will continue to be the case I don’t know, but for the moment Kekkaishi is pleasantly surprising.

It also has the most awesome shikigami since the evil crows and blob men in X. They rock. Seriously.
