Ergo Proxy Episode 21 - Shampoo Planet

Hear that? That’s the sound of me GNASHING MY TEETH IN FRUSTRATION.
Isn’t the first rule of narrative to show, not tell? Why on earth are we getting filled in on events just by people talking to Re-L? It’s sloppy story-telling born about by the erratic structure of Ergo Proxy, and it does my head in - the pacing of this show has been so badly done it’s mind-boggling.
Despite my frustrations, there’s still plenty of juicy stuff in this episode, as Re-L returns to an even more post-apocalyptic Romdeau, Vince goes off the deep end for some reason and meets the new Real Daedalus has created, and there’s a mini-showdown at the Regent’s. But I can’t help feeling it’s all been put together so sloppily that the end’s going to be bitterly disappointing. Only two episodes until I find out, though…

sloppoly put together? I think your confusing your frustration for wanting to see more and not being able to. i’ve completed the series, only to happen upon your overly opinioniated review. the whole series was done exceptionally well and if you could not see through the sporatic banter and supposed clutter of factual points, then it’s not for you.
i thoroughly enjoyed the series, and feel that is has been very far since an anime has had such a compelling effect on me. each episode had a purpose, and although contrary to popular belief, there were no filler episodes.

i tihnk its fair to say that Ergo Proxy DELIBERATELY creates confusion and likes to play with your mind at many points.
This may explain the frustration you seem to be currently experiencing?

Was disappointing as hell for me. But at least it fucked with my mind. I can’t stand the majority of anime.
