Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi (Tempou-era Story of the Mysterious Ayashi) Episode 1 - The Yoii Cometh
OP - Nagareboshi Miracle (Ikimonogakari) - I could do without the harmonica, otherwise I like the song - and there’s a Muraki Circus! Fly to the sky, heroes!
ED - Winding Road (Porno Graffiti) - another good song from everyone’s favourite oddly named band.

As strange beasts called “Yooi” (”Strange Things”) begin to enter feudal Japan, refugees flood the Kantou region. Yukiatsu Ryuudono, masquerading as a bathroom worker but obviously Something More, is marked for execution; however, he escapes from the bathroom and wanders about, bumping into a pair of immigrants repeatedly; the son, Outo, spends all his time digging for something mysterious. Eventually, he uncovers some kind of shining red river that sets off memories in Yukiatsu’s past as a Yooi appears and knocks him into a lake; however, he rises up and blasts away the Yooi with the power of kanji, and is revealed as “the one they’ve been searching for” for a disparate group of people whose names I can’t remember but am currently calling Fan Boy, Muscle Head and She-Male (because this is essentially X-Men: The Feudal Japanese Age).
As others have noted, this isn’t exactly the most exciting opening to a Bones series ever. The animation’s mostly okay with some good bits during the fights, but the story’s a bit slow and I’m not really all that good with feudal shows; not only is the time period not especially interesting to watch (I don’t much like period dramas of any kind) but the whole thing’s conducted in pseudo-Olde Worlde dialogue and the names are really, really hard to remember (if you’re a bit crap, like me). However, I have faith in Bones and particularly Shou Aikawa, so I’m sure things will get a bit more exciting or interesting later, even if things still remain fairly impenetrable for my substandard Nihongo-fu.
