Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Episode 4 - The Hidden Demon Chapter - Disturbance

Well, THAT was disturbing.

Everything goes to hell, essentially; Keiichi gets increasingly paranoid, slams Rena’s hand in a door, she later comes after him with a machete and attempts to kiss him while laughing maniacally, while Mion is after Oishi’s head on a platter; some odd green-suited men later, and Keiichi’s bashing the two girls to bits with a baseball bat after they try and inject him with something. One phonecall to Oishi later, and Keiichi claws his own throat out a la Tomitake; Keiichi’s “evidence” of what’s going on has apparently been tampered with, but IS IT REALLY????

I can’t be arsed to get into all the speculation of “ooh, this was from Keiichi’s point of view so it’s not right” or whatever; I don’t think there’s any point in trying to work out exactly what happened in the Onikakushi arc yet, as we’ve only really established questions, not answers (Onikakushi was one of the “question” games in the Higurashi… series, so this is unsurprising). One should note that Rena was carrying the machete around before Keiichi had any reason to suspect her of anything weird, however, and having watched the beginning of episode 5 it’s not just Keiichi who thinks she’s murderous… *shudder*

On to the Watanagashi (Wataganashi? I can’t remember) Chapter!

  1. Heh, you’re one of the few bloggers who hasn’t put up some kind screencap of Rena’s maniacal laughter. For some reason, that scene ruined this arc a bit, though apart from that, I loved it.

There doesn’t happen to be some kind of English translation of the original game, does there? I’m actually getting curious to playing it.

  2. No, there’s no English translation of the doujin game series, yet. However, if you’re curious about the format of the game or just want more oyashiro-mode Rena, you can find a fully “playable” version of the first chapter of the game on the official 07th website.

Turn your speakers up, get ready for some great music and sfx, and grab a good thick J-E dictionary if you want to take a shot at understanding the dialogue!

  3. hey if u want to watch episode 1-11 go to youtube!! sure….. takes a while to load but worth it in the end! ^^

  4. I don’t intend to give spoilers (there’s currently 11 subbed episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni), but I do want to say that there seems to be proof that Oyashiro-sama affects more people than those who disappear…

wha do u mean by dropped?u hate all those anime?higurashi is very nice,it had 26 episodes now, seasons 2 coming out sooner too.

  6. At first, I was turned off by the animation style as well, but when this show gets twisted… it really goes for it.

If you do maybe pick it up again one day (all 26 episodes are subbed) you’ll find that there’s much sicker and confusing things to come. The character development and story definitely makes things much more interesting.

Also if you’re the type to like gruesome torture and murders happening to overly cute characters, this would be your kind of anime.
