Tsubasa Chronicle Episode 20 - Afternoon Piano

Fye buys a piano for the restaurant, solely so we can have an insert song in this episode - and lo, Oroha (the curly-haired woman who works for the evil dude whose name I’ve forgotten that’s running the show) comes in and uses a magic song to learn everything about Sakura - cue Yui Makino singing, and I still think she’s naff (I was expecting them to pimp her piano playing as well, but we were spared that).
This wasn’t actually the main point of the episode, though - instead, Syaoran and Kurogane go sword shopping and get horribly ripped off before Kurogane basically pounds Syaoran into submission before he even gets his hands on the sword. This is the problem with having a glass eye, I guess.
Oh, and the world isn’t real, ‘cos there’s some kind of sci-fi control centre and Syaoran’s floating in a big pink egg.
Excuse the frivolity, but I find the Yui Makino pimping quite annoying and that pretty much soured my impressions of this episode, which is a shame as it wasn’t exactly bad otherwise. She’s quite good as a seiyuu now she’s got into the swing of things, but her singing voice sounds like she’s a 12 year old caught in the spotlight at a carol concert…

I’m sorry to go off-topic, but I just noticed something that I want to ask about. YOU are watching Lyrical Nanoha?!?!? YOU?!!
*dies*

Hehehehe! I finished watching it last night, actually! I still think the first episode is far too generic and quite creepy (incest and weird-ass animation), but in the end:
Positive things:
Akiyuki Shinbo generally rocks as a director
Kickass fight scenes
Nice and short, so no filler
Negative:
Precia is a rubbish villainess, she’s just batshit insane
Occasionally dodge animation
I still don’t think it’s a brilliant series - it pales in comparison to Rozen Maiden, which I was watching concurrently - but it’s not as bad as I first thought it was, I suppose. I’m a sucker for shows with magic spells exploding everywhere!
I honestly think that the whole Nanoha/Fate slash fandom is reading waaaaay too much into it, but then that’s the whole point I suppose. It’s one of the things that put me off watching the whole series in the first place, but I really don’t think it’s there. Plus the end of the series was overly sappy and I fast-forwarded through it.
We’ll have to see whether Nanoha A’s is more or less entertaining - I don’t think I’ll blog beyond the first episode (it’s not something I’d want to pay lots of attention to - I watched Nanoha whilst doing other things, so the boring bits didn’t matter so much).

Well, now that you mention it, what do you think about Rozen Maiden? I remember that you were kind of hesitant to watch it not too long ago.

It’s entirely your doing that I watched it now - I have faith in your tastes in anime, Garten ^_^
I really liked it, actually. It was a lot more…mature? perhaps than I was expecting, given that it’s by Peach Pit (after Dears I didn’t have high expectations). The animation was great, I liked the music, I think I actually liked ALL the characters (even Hina Ichigo!) and, although “gothic” in design, there wasn’t the slightest hint of lolicon fanservice in there really (even the washing of the doll’s clothes in whichever episode that was didn’t feel like that kind of thing).
I’m really looking forward to seeing Traumend (insert umlaut where appropriate) now - I watched Nanoha and Rozen Maiden to prepare for the new season, and while I’ll probably watch the first episode of Nanoha A’s and then leave it until it finishes, I’d quite like to watch Rozen Maiden Traumend as it airs now.

Haven’t watched all the available episodes of Tsubasa. Is it true that none of it is real and he’s just floating in a bubble, or were you just kidding around? I’m guessing kidding around, since watching Tsubasa is still on hiatus…
But still… ?
