Nabari no Ou Episode 5 - Greed

It’s very strange, but mentally I’ve almost totally blanked out this episode. I’ve not forgotten what happened in it (well, partly that, too, it was a few weeks ago that I watched it) but I mentally skipped straight from the end of episode 4 to the events of episode 6 in my head.

I think it’s partly because it deals with Raimei’s not-particularly-well-concealed angsty backstory. We already know she’s looking for her brother, and the reveal that he killed some family members and is now “evil” isn’t exactly surprising in a show like this. In fact, this episode is somewhat fillerish in that it marks time before the next interesting piece of plot - concepts and character traits we already know about (Raimei’s brother, Kumohira’s aversion to killing, Fuuma’s incredibly skill) are just re-iterated here to emphasise a point before we move onto Yoite in the next episode.

It’s not bad, per se, just a little different from what I was expecting from this show. Nabari no Ou is proving to be somewhat more complicated - and somewhat more reflective - than I perhaps expected. I like it, but for reasons which are slightly deeper than my initial “oooh, snazzy fight sequences!” reaction to the show.
