Amatsuki Episode 4 - The Divine Dog and the Divine Princess

Toki’s captor reveals himself as an insidious prettyboy tengu now named Bonten, and he utters some cryptic-but-not-really nonsense about Toki choosing the fate of the world of Amatsuki. After awakening to find himself in the shrine of the princess he was sent to visit, he gets attacked by the princess’s personal guard who manages to bite off more than she can chew when she frees the inugami spirit from inside Kuchiha…

Oh. I wasn’t expecting Amatsuki to get really interesting. That caught me a little by surprise.

Okay, so it’s very anime-by-numbers - the main character is TEH CHOSEN ONE, he alone has the special magical powers to choose the fate of the fantasy world he has found himself in and so forth (one wonders why Kon got shafted in the “special human being” stakes - Bonten gets to be a tengu, Toki has possibly limitless powers of imagination, and Kon loses the use of his arm. Doesn’t seem very fair). Nevertheless, this episode really upped the game for Amatsuki; despite Toki’s slow devolution into being the ultimate in generic heroes, the characters around him more than make up for that - particularly Bonten and the creepy dolly princess.

Hi, I found this while searching for something else but I noticed that you were watching Amatsuki. I don’t have anyone around me to talk to about this so I found it pleasant to read what you had to say. I too have that semi-frustration esque feeling with Amatsuki. It isn’t fully satisfying yet it isn’t horrifyingly bad either. So I’m still up for watching it x: but yes, I see where you’re coming from with this. It’s nice reading what you have to say. ^^
